Nowadays, the popularity of using natural ingredients, especially chamomile, in skincare products is no longer strange. This is the result of the fact that people have long-accumulated experience using these materials in their daily lives.

1. The combination of science and nature

1.1 The combination of science and nature

First, I would like to briefly talk about the commonalities between Western and Eastern medicine.

Eastern and Western medicine both originate from research on the things that exist around us. Pharmaceuticals also originate from ingredients available in nature. The increase in human needs leads to technological advances in medicine. We have taken advantage of raw natural materials and conducted the following activities:

  • Find a way to synthesize active ingredients in the lab without growing plants.
  • Extract beneficial active ingredients and increase their effects.

In addition, we also research and create our own active ingredients that cannot be found in nature and have very powerful effects.

1.2 Live naturally in modern society

Modern biomedicine has proven its superiority throughout human history, such as increasing crop productivity, creating powerful drugs, fighting epidemics, successfully treating serious diseases, enhancing human lifespan, and reducing the death rate due to disease.

But despite these advances, there are still many customers who prefer health care products of organic origin. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle and using organic food and natural skincare products is a trend that has never been extinguished. Among the colleagues around us, it is not difficult to find a few people with the above outlook on life.

It is also sad that many people are too extreme in pursuing a purely natural lifestyle and disregard biomedical advances. Perhaps only when faced with incurable diseases will they understand.

2. Application of chrysanthemum

Why should people pay attention to products containing chamomile extract? The following section will analyze this very familiar ingredient to help people choose the right products for their body and condition.

If you pay attention to the ingredients of skin care products, you will sometimes see calendula extract, which is an extract from chrysanthemums. This yellow flower grows abundantly in spring and has been widely used as a medicinal herb for centuries. The most used part is the flower petals, which are pressed to extract essential oils or to obtain a solution used to make toner.

In Oriental medicine and culinary culture. Chrysanthemum is a precious and popular medicinal herb with many extremely good health effects, especially for the elderly. Chrysanthemum tea helps prevent high blood pressure, improves liver condition, beautifies skin, and keeps eyes healthy.

In addition, Chrysanthemum flowers have the effect of calming nervous tension and helping to sleep well, so you should drink Chrysanthemum tea after meals every day. It also helps relieve muscle spasms, fever, and stomatitis.

There are many species in the Chrysanthemum order used in quite a variety of health care products, such as Marigold, Chrysanthemum, Yellow Chrysanthemum, and Daisy.

2.1 Benefits of calendula extract for skin care

The main benefits of the calendula are anti-inflammatory, anti-infectious, hydrating, and reducing irritation. Its essential oils help soften the skin, making it suitable for people with dry skin. With anti-inflammatory properties, this extract can help reduce itching caused by insect bites, allergies, or eczema.

Calendula extract is used to soothe irritated skin and can be used on infants. Chrysanthemum flowers are also prepared in ointment form for use in the treatment of radiation dermatitis (common in patients receiving radiotherapy), diaper rash in newborns, scratches, burns, rashes, eczema, and chapped skin.

Calendula’s anti-infective properties are good for both open wounds, acne, and ulcers. This flower grows a lot in Russia; some people even call calendula the Russian penicillin.

2.2 Which skin type should use chamomile extract?

In fact, almost everyone can use skin care products containing calendula extract. Those with dry, inflamed, irritated, or very sensitive skin will find it very useful.

Calendula’s antibacterial properties make it a powerful astringent. For that reason, people with acne-prone skin and large pores may find that this ingredient helps soothe red pimples, heal and prevent acne, and narrow pores.

Calendula extract basically does not react with the secretion of sebum and excess oil on the facial skin. Therefore, for people with oily skin, products containing calendula will enhance their ability to clean pores and increase moisture compensation to create a balance between oil and water. That effect reduces acne inflammation and tightens pores.

Some cosmeceuticals containing calendula are recommended to be applied directly to problem areas during treatment. People can also use liquid products such as TONER to prolong usage time and soothe and strengthen the skin.

Just like flowers in nature, some people are allergic to Chrysanthemum, so we recommend testing a small amount of products containing Calendula before officially using it. The most practical way is to try crushing natural flower petals (flowers bought at the supermarket often contain chemicals) and applying them to the facial skin, monitoring to see if there is any irritation or not.

Hopefully, through this section, you can equip yourself with some useful knowledge and choose the right product for your situation. Below is some basic research on Calendula.

  2. Evaluation of various functional skin parameters using a topical cream of Calendula officinalis extract

This experiment was held at the SOFIA Beauty and Training Center. The departments of pharmacy and biology at THRACE University, Bulgaria, coordinated the implementation in 2010.

The study was conducted in 3 months on 24 people, ages 15–31. Including 8 men and 16 women, all are suffering from acne. Chrysanthemum extract is extracted by pressing and filtering to get the solution, then concentrated in the form of a topical gel.

10 questions were used to survey their general health care habits and previous acne treatment, as well as the results they achieved after 3 months of research.

Due to the nature of my job, I have to constantly travel everywhere. My lifestyle is a bit erratic, and time is limited. Therefore, to maintain my health at the best possible level, I always try to limit fast food and replace it with fruits and vegetables. When it comes to skin care products, I put safety first. Because I don't have much time to do elaborate skin care steps, I like products that provide optimal results in a short time.
